About
The Overton Vision
.avif)
Overton exists to help build a better Birmingham.
Not a copy of somewhere else, and not a nostalgia project — but a Birmingham that becomes the best version of itself. One that is authentic to who we are, while being ambitious about what we can become.
We don’t need to be the next Nashville, Austin, or Detroit. We need to be the next Birmingham.
We believe cities change when visionary leaders have access to opportunity, capital, and backing — and when the institutions around them are strong enough to help their work compound over time. Overton exists to help create those conditions.
Over the last thirteen years, our work has taken many forms. We’ve helped bring proven national organizations to Birmingham. We’ve built new programs from the ground up when no existing model fit. We’ve invested in founders, operators, and teams building durable companies. We’ve backed civic and cultural institutions that shape how a city works and how it sees itself. And we’ve increasingly focused on creating physical places that support all of the above.
Some of this work shows up as education and workforce programs. Some as fellowships, media, or community platforms. Some as investments in companies, sports, restaurants, or real estate. The form changes, but the intent doesn’t.
Overton is not a single initiative. It is a long-term commitment to backing people, institutions, and ideas that raise the bar for Birmingham — and helping the next chapter of the city its best one yet.
